‘Friendly’ and ‘welcoming’ was the verdict of OUR Youth Council after their meeting with the YMCA DownsLink Group Board of Trustees last week.
All three are residents living in our supported accommodation projects across Sussex and they are representatives on our Youth Council.
The Youth Council comprises of between 8-12 young people and representatives were invited to join part of the board away day on 21 March.
Three young people took the opportunity to share their reflections and ‘wants’ about living in our supported accommodation, and their experience of being part of our Youth Council. They also learnt more about the role of the board of trustees in defining the strategic direction of the organisation.
Key areas for improvement were WiFi connectivity, rents (too high), access to a digital application to report maintenance issues in their accommodation and generally access to more activities (group and individual).
This event was part of a programme of work where we are co-producing with young people inclusive and meaningful methods that can involve them in decision-making spaces at all levels of the organisation.
Watch this space as this work continues to evolve as part of our 2023-2026 strategy.
