YMCA Charity Skydive 2024

Saturday 7th September 2024

7th September 2024
We're once again teaming up with GoSkydive in Salisbury to offer our supporters the incredible experience of a tandem skydive. There is no experience like it… Everyone should do a skydive at least once and perhaps this is your opportunity. Before taking to the skies, GoSkydive explain the importance of safety, what to expect and teach you how to do the perfect landing!

There is nothing like the exhilaration of hitting a freefall speed of 125mph before pulling the parachute and floating slowly down with only the wind in your ears. It is something you’ll never forget. Are you brave enough to join us?

To sign up on the GoSkydive website click 'find out more'. Book your place by entering 'YMCA DownsLink Group' as your selected charity.

Registration free: £50
Sponsorship minimum: £395
Difficulty: Actually much easier than you think!

What to expect on the day

On the day of your charity skydive you will be taken through different stages of training to ensure you’re as comfortable as possible when you go into the plane to take on the jump.

On the day you will arrive around 8am to Old Sarum Park, Salisbury. There will be a team of YMCA supporters set up with flags and banners so you can't miss them. Come and say hello to us and then head into the reception to sign in. Next you will be called to watch an introduction video. Once you've completed this, collect your YMCA t-shirt and tote bag from us.

There is usually a couple of hours of waiting around where you can sit outside and relax, visit the on-site café or watch the other skydivers take off. When it's your turn, you will be called into the practice area, fitted into your jumpsuit and harness and taught what to do during the jump. Then it'll be time for the main event! Your name will be called and you will get set up with your tandem skydive professional, board the plane and take an approx. 12 minute flight into the sky ready to jump!

Frequently asked questions

We know that fundraising money can seem daunting. But don’t worry, we are here to help! When you sign up to do a tandem skydive with us, we will send you a fundraising pack to help you get started on fundraising the money. If you feel like you want extra support or need a hand reaching the target then just get in touch and we will see how we can help you.

We will take some photos and videos on the day that we will be able to share with you after the skydive. If you want to have a video done of you jumping, you can pay for this with GoSkydive on the day.

You will be provided with a jumpsuit, so please wear comfy, suitable clothing for the weather conditions. It’s ideal to have layers now we’re heading into the cooler months. No high collars or zips. For footwear, flat, tight fitting shoes with no hooks, heels or buckles, laced up trainers are best. With the cooler weather we are advising you bring gloves and a tubular bandana/snood for your skydiver.

The standard skydive is 10,000ft, with 30 seconds of free fall before the parachute goes up and you glide smoothly to the ground for around 5 minutes. You will also have the option of upgrading your skydive to a 15,000ft jump which includes 1 minute of free fall. You would have to pay for this addition yourself at £89.

Why take on a challenge?

The vulnerable, young people we help must overcome many challenges, from such a young age. All funds raised through your own challenge will go towards giving them a chance of a better life.
