About the Position

The Project

YMCA Youth Advice Centre (YAC) Brighton Food Market is a Youth-Led sustainable social grocery store. The aim of this project is to support young people in accessing healthy, low-cost foods and shopping products at a simple one-stop shop – an easy way for young people who struggle to afford the rising cost of goods to access locally produced fresh foods and supermarket surplus, providing a modern and sustainable approach to food waste and food poverty. YAC is keen to empower young people throughout the project, seeking volunteers, feedback, and inspiration for how YAC Food Market can reflect the needs of our community. The Role

We are looking to recruit volunteer Food Market workers with an interest in supporting young people (aged 13-25), through providing advice, information and guidance. You will be eager to provide support in developing YAC Social Media Pages with help from a YAC Social Media worker as well as supporting the delivery of the YAC Food Market. You will be required to complete Food Hygiene training and FSA Allergy awareness training.

Key to this role, is supporting our youth-led Food Market project, which will include welcoming young people at reception, supporting them to access food, and supporting the smooth running of the Food Market which is on Tuesday – Thursday between 3-6pm

We ask that you can support roughly 3 hours a week for a 12-month period

Who You Are

You do not need to have specific formal qualifications, but you will need patience, resilience, empathy and tolerance and a good sense of humour!

You will be aged 18 and above, have an interest and able to relate well with young people.

Willingness to volunteer under the supervision of YMCA DLG Support Staff and the Volunteer Coordinator and follow the YMCA DownsLink Group policies and procedures.

All volunteers are asked to complete some YMCA DLG mandatory training when they commence their role. Volunteers will be offered a thorough induction, as well as training and support throughout their time at YAC. We also offer a variety of additional training opportunities and encourage our volunteers to utilise the courses available.
